Ray's Background and Story

Often a single powerful thought, idea, or affirmation can transform the moment or even a life. I know because I've lived it.
Hello. My name is Ray Davis. I am a inspirational writer, thinker, and speaker who lives and works in the Kansas City area. I have been writing, recording, and using words, visualization, and affirmations for nearly 20 years to help myself and others achieve goals and dreams.
My approach to positive thinking is both spiritual and practical. By that I mean, that I include worthy wisdom and ideas, whatever their source, and I promote the development of both the personal and professional aspects of the individual.
My work and writing is influenced by the famous mythologist Joseph Campbell, well-known motivational teacher Dr. Wayne Dyer, and many others. However, the crux of my passion, purpose, and philosophy is found in my own journey and experience.
I grew up in a pretty typical Midwestern middle class family. From an early age, I believed there was more to life than met the eye and more than I was hearing in the conversations around me.
My moment of truth arrived unexpectedly when, at 25, I found myself lying in a hospital bed near death. This photo was taken about a year before I wound up in the hospital. I could not walk or stand, eat or drink, and I had dropped to 96 pounds. More than that, I was in so much pain that I did not want to live. The first night in the hospital I said a prayer asking that I be allowed to leave this life.
Outside that hospital room my finances were in shambles, my goals and dreams sat unrealized, and I believed I had nothing to live for. Inside that hospital room I was writhing in pain and ready to move on to whatever came next.
In the midst of this scene, a pulsating yellowish-white energy field appeared in the corner of my room near the ceiling. I do not know what or who it was. Somehow, without words, it managed to communicate to me that it was not time for me leave this life. I was told I had a mission to accomplish. When I awoke in the morning I had only a vague memory of the light, but I knew i was going to survive that situation.
Later, my doctor commented that, "my electrolyte counts were lower than he had ever seen in someone who was still alive." Eventually, doctors determined that I had a rare condition known as Addison's Disease. What had landed me in the hospital, taken my energy and my will to live was a slowly devolving Addisonian crisis.
After eight weeks of physical and mental recovery in the hospital I set out on this journey without any knowledge of where it would lead. The first order of business was to get my life and career back on track.
Having just stared death in the face, I had a thirst to understand the cultures and religions that made up our world. I wanted to know what others across time and culture had thought about life and about death. I began with Campbell's seminal work The Hero with a Thousand Faces and read everything I could get my hands on in the areas of spirituality, world religions, and self-development.
Around this time I also began writing and recording my own affirmations and meditating. I realized that my outer world could only be transformed by changing my inner world. As I slowly set my life back on course, I began to realize that my "mission" revolved around sharing this message with others.
I believed that my story could be useful in helping people who were suffering the pain of rock bottom realize they were more than they suspected and push forward to new heights. I also believed I could help high achievers continue to achieve while putting more meaning on that achievement.
In the years since, I met and married my soulmate, found success in the corporate world, continued to develop my own sense of the meaning of this life, and now have a successful writing and motivation business.
I've tasted defeat and I've tasted victory. I believe I have something to share about how we - individually and collectively - can create a happier, more successful world where every single person can live his or her fullest expression and "follow their bliss".
The ebooks I will be posting on this website, beginning with The Power to Be You, affirmation singles, and extended affirmations are my way of sharing what I have learned on my journey in the hopes that it will help all those who come here.
Let's create your dreams together!
